• Skills for Youth Resilience Programme (SYRP)

Advancing youth resilience through integrated empowerment approaches.

By promoting sustainable livelihoods in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, the initiative drives meaningful economic growth, social empowerment, and strengthened organizational capacity.

    About the Programme

The SERVE-YA initiative is a transformative program dedicated to empowering youth in Mozambique and Zimbabwe by fostering economic, emotional, and organizational resilience. This comprehensive project equips young people with the tools they need to thrive through targeted interventions in technical training, entrepreneurship development, and climate-smart agricultural practices. By focusing on sustainable livelihoods and inclusive opportunities, it addresses the unique challenges faced by marginalized youth and rural communities.

The project emphasizes dignified economic activity, aiming for 70% of YA graduates to engage in meaningful employment or self-employment. Additional support includes scholarships for marginalized youth, microcredit loans, and a postgraduate support package to nurture entrepreneurial aspirations. The SYRP also promotes emotional resilience by enhancing core skills, wellness, and knowledge of social and reproductive health while fostering youth agency in human rights and climate issues.

    Objectives of the project

The SERVE-YA initiative empowers youth in Mozambique and Zimbabwe by addressing critical socio-economic challenges through a focus on economic, emotional, and organizational resilience.

    Economic Resilience
The program ensures 70% of YA graduates secure dignified employment or self-employment. Key actions include investments in training infrastructure, renewable energy programs at YA Beira, and climate-smart agriculture training for 150 farmers in Dondo. Additionally, 140 microcredit loans and kits are provided to graduates and franchise holders.

    Emotional Resilience
Focusing on emotional growth, 85% of graduates gain SRH knowledge and improved life skills. Initiatives include wellness and PSS programs for 12,100 students, training 20 SRH Champions, hosting five community festivals in Zimbabwe, and delivering Human Rights training for 5,500 students in Mozambique to promote agency.

    Organizational Resilience
Institutional capacity is strengthened through safeguarding, gender mainstreaming, and Greening TVET. The program supports internal audits at YA Hub, addresses capacity gaps, and enhances center-level training, including disability-focused initiatives at YA Zimbabwe. It also emphasizes retaining experienced staff.

    Educational Inclusion
The programme broadens educational access with 1,000 scholarships for marginalized youth, 70% of whom are female. It delivers outreach training for 240 rural youth in Zimbabwe and post-graduate bootcamps for 60 entrepreneurs, empowering underrepresented groups.

    Environmental and Community Resilience
Promoting sustainable development, 11 climate-related interventions are underway in Beira. The SERVE Volunteer Program integrates with SYRP to strengthen community support and enhance resilience at environmental and societal levels.
