At Young Africa, we cherish every volunteer and partner who joins us in our mission of empowering young people. Recently, we had the privilege of hosting two extraordinary volunteers from Achmea, supported by the Achmea Foundation, who came not just to lend their professional skills but also to experience firsthand the heart and spirit of Young Africa.

Janneke van Daal-Maas, Project Manager at Achmea, and Yvonne van Triest, Senior HR Business Partner, spent invaluable time with us at the International Office and Young Africa Zimbabwe training centres in Chitungwiza and Epworth.

Reflecting on their visits, Janneke was deeply moved by the energy and optimism of our youth. “What stood out was the incredible positivity and motivation among students,” she shared.

“Seeing the ‘Learn to Earn’ motto come alive in young people, each determined to build a brighter future despite the challenges they face, was truly inspiring.”

Yvonne was equally touched by Young Africa’s innovative approach, especially the mobile training programs. She explained:

“Every young person we met had a powerful story. Despite the adversity they face, they enthusiastically embrace opportunities to learn and thrive. The mobile training, bringing skills directly to communities, embodies exactly the type of creativity and passion Young Africa stands for,”

Throughout their interactions, both Janneke and Yvonne recognised the vibrant organisational culture of Young Africa, describing it as welcoming, supportive, and full of heart. “Everyone here believes deeply in the mission,” Janneke explained, highlighting that such genuine commitment greatly contributes to the success and growth of Young Africa.

The two also provided thoughtful recommendations to help nurture this culture and growth further, underlining the importance of clear communication and collaboration across teams. Yvonne encouraged openness and supportive feedback among staff,

“The strength of Young Africa lies in its people and their passion. Speaking openly, focusing on strengths and solutions, can unlock even greater potential.”

As their visit came to an end, Janneke and Yvonne expressed admiration and hope for Young Africa’s continued success, affirming their belief that passion, optimism, and teamwork will keep the mission alive and impactful.

At Young Africa International, it is through partnerships like these, filled with genuine connection and mutual learning, that we create lasting change. We invite more corporate partners to join us in shaping brighter futures for youth across Africa.

Together, we empower youth with skills for both work and life!
