Young Africa Releases 2025 Annual Report: A Year of Growth, Grit, and New Ground

When Marlene lost her family’s sole provider, her path forward was suddenly clouded with uncertainty. But she refused to let hardship write her story.
She had the talent. She just needed the opportunity to unleash it.
Through the Skills2Live mobile workshops in Nampula—supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands and implemented by Young Africa Mozambique—Marlene received professional training in cutting and sewing.
The programme was more than a course. Marlene refined her craft. She shared her experiences to support other young women in her community. And eventually, she secured a position in the formal job market.
Today, Marlene is creating standout garments at a renowned tailor shop in Nampula. She is financially independent and dreaming on a whole new scale. Her ultimate vision? Opening her own atelier and becoming one of Mozambique’s premier fashion designers.
Marlene’s journey reminds us that empowering young people is about unlocking potential so they can build their own futures.
